Yahrtzeit Ceremony 2019 for Eli Solomon and Chuck Hornstein-Haran הי"ד

As already posted, 46 years after their deaths while serving in the IDF during the Yom Kippur War, we gathered at Har Herzl Cemetery to commemorate, recall and honor our fellow Betarim, Eliu Solomon and Chuck Hornstein-Haran.

This year we had Betarim join us from abroad including Myron (Bucky) and Tanya Buchman, Jenny Greenblatt-Levy, Bella Potack-Cohen and David Kandel & Family.

Afterwards, the Buchmans hosted the social lgathering and catch-up opportunity.

46 Years- How Could It Be?

It's hard to believe that forty-six 46 years have passed since Eli and Chuck were killed.
It's hard to believe that we're so old. Who are the old folks in the photos?

We're all like family.

Eli's daughters and older grandsons have served in the army, even in his type of unit.

Quite a number of friends still living in the states came this year to be with us all. There were lots of stories, even more than usual. We didn't need the IDF soldiers assigned to us for the minyan, but it's even more important for them to hear the stories and see the signs of lasting friendship. I could see from the expressions of their faces that they understood the English we spoke. That was good. I hope they tell others about the contributions of veteran immigrants like ourselves and friendships that last.

42 Years After Yom Kippur War, Another Azkara

Here are some photos from this year's Azkara, the Memorial at Mt. Herzl and then at the Miller's for Eli and Chuck. I don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said before.

Our ties are family ties. It's thrilling and comforting to see how grown up Eli and Rena's grandchildren now are, and it just gets sadder to think that Chuck has left only fading memories.

Photos From The 2014, 5775, Azkara

It was good to be together last week. That annual reunion at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery is the legacy of Eli and Chuck. So many of us are still friends, and Eli and Rena's children and now grandchildren know us, too.

May we meet at smachot!
