THE PICTURE FROM THE FIRST YOM ATZMAUT PARADE WAS TAKEN WITH MY CAMERA, BUT AS I AM IN IT I DON'T RECALL WHO SNAPPED IT. HABIRYON IS OF COURSE M.E. (MORDECHAI ELHANAN) BEN AMI (BEER). I DON'T RECALL WHO THE FEMALE OR THE KID ARE.

I was in the Mishmar Hakovod for the first parade and I carried a rifle. The Mishmar Hakovod was led by David Sprung. We entered Central Park at 72nd street and then headed to the Band Shell - and it was Mother's Day - so I brought my mom to the parade. The parade always seemed to be on Mother's Day. Since we were all in uniform and some of us were carrying rifles the police (?) asked us to be security at the band shell - go figure. After the formal ceremonies we held an impromtu kumzits in the park.
